Last night I went to the Saucony Run Your World Event that I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. It was a nice little mid-week adventure break in a hectic week at school.
The event started with a workout with a local gym. It consisted of bodyweight exercises that reminded me how out of shape I am, but it was fun. The workout, coupled with a day of sitting thanks to professional development, made every muscle south of my neck sore today.
After the workout, I grabbed a cider and headed to the paint bar. As you can see, I’m not the most artistic, but it was fun to hang out with a bunch of people and do arts and crafts.
I have no idea what the significance of the stilt guy was, but it was a pretty neat costume.
I did look at this event as a way to socialize and meet people in my quest to make friends. There weren’t as many people as I expected, but I did get to catch up with someone I met briefly this summer. The goal of the event was to raise some money for hurricane relief, and we got a nice bit of Saucony swag.
A look towards the weekend
I’m looking forward to two local adventures this weekend!
The first is the Roanoke Jewish Food Festival! I’m looking forward to the pastries and the deli sandwiches, but there should also be some good music and dancing. There is also a petting zoo. Is it ridiculous that I still find those to be fun? I can’t help it, I love animals.
It is quite the weekend for food in Roanoke as there is also a food truck rodeo. It looks like there will be several food trucks that we haven’t seen yet! scallion pancake wraps, spaghetti grilled cheese, bbq, cupcakes, and butter beer!? I don’t think my run on Saturday is quite going to balance out both of these food festivals, so hopefully, we can find some time to go explore on the Blue Ridge Parkway a bit.
