My 2018 New Year’s Resolutions

I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions. I think most of us know that they are usually an exercise in futility. However, this year I am making my 2018 Action Plan. I feel these are all realistic goals. Besides, If I don’t call them my New Year’s Resolutions, then perhaps I will follow through – right?

Blog More

I started this blog off with about a post a week. I might be running at a post per month now.  I’m not going to set a number to meet, but I am going to take some time over winter break and generate a list of topics to write about. I did this at the beginning, and it helped me a lot.

Completely redoing my teaching this semester really ate up all of my free time. I anticipate that the prep during this semester will be less, so I want to refocus on finding new local adventures to try out.

Action to complete: Make a list of blog topics and write about them.

Cook Real Food More

Our diet has sucked this semester. We are both tired and grumpy when we get home, and too often we resort to processed foods or takeout. This is more than doable. I have just been lazy. I need to get back into meal planning and prepping on the weekend. Lately, I haven’t even been going to the grocery store with a list! That is not a recipe for healthy eating.

Notice, I am not making a grandiose plan of losing 20 pounds or cooking all of our meals for 365 days. I’m just asking myself to make a grocery list and cut up some veggies on Sunday. On a side note – does anyone have an air fryer like this one?

Is it useful, or something that would just take up counter space before I dropped it off at the Goodwill?

Action to complete: Make a freaking grocery list and prep food on Sunday.

Run some races

Last weekend I ran the Jingle Bell 5k. It was snowy, slushy, and cold, but a ton of fun. In the past, I shied away from 5ks, but I think my older self really likes them. It might have a lot to do with the running group I joined. Hopefully, my schedule will match up with their spring schedule.

The Roanoke area seems to have a ton of 5ks, so it should be a no-brainer.

Action to complete: Sign up and run 5ks.

I’ll check in with you in February and let you know how it’s going. (Blog topic #1 on my 2018 Action Plan list!)
